General Biology Research Laboratory

Programmed cell death, plant embryology, and pollen biology studies are mainly carried out in the General Biology Research Laboratory.

Within the scope of programmed cell death studies, the morphological, biochemical, and molecular effects of abiotic stress-induced programmed cell death are examined in detail in vegetative tissues of important agricultural plants such as barley, wheat, rye, and sunflower. In addition, studies are carried out on programmed cell death that occurs in the generative tissues of plants during the normal development process.

Within the scope of plant embryology studies, the events in the process from flower bud formation to seed germination in angiosperms are examined in detail. Specifically, studies are carried out on morphological, biochemical, and molecular differences in flower ontogeny, stamen, and pistil development.

Within the scope of pollen biology studies, studies are carried out on pollen morphology, pollen germination, and pollen tube elongation. Specifically, it examines various structures and molecules involved in in-vitro pollen germination and pollen tube elongation with morphological, biochemical, and molecular methods and investigates different signaling pathways involved in pollen tube elongation.
